This past week my family including my Mom, Stepdad, Sister, her boyfriend, my husband Daniel, our sweet Sawyer, and myself traveled to Gulf Shores, AL for family vacation! While planning this trip, my biggest worry was how will my 6 month old handle the dreary 12 hour drive!?? Well good news is WE SURVIVED! Here are my top 5 tips for traveling a long distance with a little one!:)
1. Plan Ahead! Being prepared is a sure way to eliminate unnecessary stress! We planned to start our journey at Sawyer's 2nd to last feeding before bed time and drive thru the night. He ate his dinner at 6:00pm and we were on the road about 8:00pm (the time he lays down for bed) he usually sleeps for two hours and then eats again at 10:00pm and is out for the night! It seemed to work for us this way! Obviously every baby is different so adjusting times based on your baby's sleeping and eating habits are probably going to work best;)
2. Pack Accordingly!! I packed everything he could need including extra food, clothes, and diapers in the diaper bag to stay easily accessible. (This came in handy when he had a massive blow out on the way home and had to do a complete wardrobe change!) The rest went in the suit case stored on the luggage rack.
3. Dress Comfy! Make sure baby is as comfy as can be!
Here is Sawyer all comfy in his onesie and cotton pants:)
4. Make The Most Of Every Stop! We stopped when it was feeding time and filled up, stretched, bought junk food, etc,. Making the most of every stop insured spending the least time possible wasting time off the road!
5. Bring Entertainment! On the way home we got an earlier start which meant we had to entertain Sawyer a little more than on the way down. I packed plenty of toys but his favorite was his Nene's phone of course! ( 6 months and already loving electronics...We may be in trouble!!) He loved watching this video of a dog doing tricks for its owner! He watched it and laughed over and over!
....passed out!! Haha
Good luck on your next venture! Enjoy every moment!!😘💨
Have a BLESSED day!!
